About Founder
Mami — 真美 in Japanese, meaning “True Beauty” — was born in Japan and raised between Japan and the United States, giving her a naturally bicultural perspective.
She graduated from Keio University with a degree in Art History and holds a nationally certified curator qualification. She spent nine years in the United States during her formative years, completing her high school education in Virginia.
She spent 32 years at Hakuhodo, working on marketing and communications for global brands, including French luxury maisons, Japanese automotive companies, and technology firms.
Through her work connecting Japan and the world, she came to see that Japanese are often misunderstood abroad, largely because of the unspoken nuances and indirect communication that are central to daily life in Japan.
In 2024, she founded True Beauty to share these qualities more directly through travel.
She travels within Japan at least once a month, personally selecting the places and experiences she recommends.
